Intro:
As the pandemic upended schooling, PCE's 12th Annual Convention convened two policy discussions on the unprecedented limitations COVID-19 imposed — and how to carry the education agenda forward.
Zehra Arshad, National Coordinator, PCE opened with an overview of the pandemic's compounded impact on girls, children with disabilities, and students from low-income backgrounds.
Policy Discussion 1 — Progress & Challenges to Achieve RTE and SDG-4 in Times of Covid-19 Academics and experts examined public financing, the implementation of Article 25-A and SDG-4, and a provincial overview of girls' education — including a session on the Voluntary National Review (VNR 2022) and civil-society spotlight reports, drawing on UNESCO/UNICEF's Asia-Pacific SDG review and gaps in financing, expenditure, enrolment, and learning outcomes.
Policy Discussion 2 — The Digital Age of Education: Impact of Covid-19 The second discussion took up hybrid and distance-learning models, the inequality around their use in Pakistan, and students' mental well-being — with calls for effective legislative reform and strong parliamentary oversight of existing education policies.
