Education Resilience & Climate Change

The timing was impossible to ignore. After record monsoon rains flooded a third of the country in 2022, PCE convened a two-day learning event on Climate Change and Education: Pathways to Sustainable Development — to build knowledge, dispel the myths that still cloud the subject, and orient civil society toward resilience rather than reaction. The trainers brought both regional and frontline perspective: Ram Gaire (National Campaign for Education Nepal), Hasan Dajana (climate activist and Program Manager, Amal Academy), Zehra Arshad (National Coordinator, PCE), and Ayman Babar (Program Coordinator, Advocacy & Research, PCE).

Through presentations and brainstorming, participants came to see climate change not as a distant natural phenomenon but as a man-made crisis demanding urgent action, and shared their own districts' experiences of disaster and relief. The discussions surfaced the sharply gendered realities of climate disasters - women's safety and hygiene among them and every participant's presentation was opened up and critiqued for fresh ideas to spread awareness and improve disaster management. Members left with a firmer grip on the connections between climate, education, and intersectionality, and a clearer sense of their own role in the response.

Held alongside the 13th Annual Convention.
